Community Garden Build
During my practicum, the green industries classes were redesigning and building the community garden located in the school property. This garden will also be used to teach lessons in the green industries program. Over the course of the fall my associate teacher and I jointly taught students about design and building techniques. The students created a design that included tiered raised garden beds, a tilled garden area, compost bins, and a rain capturing structure to irrigate everything. Once the design was completed we taught students the necessary skills to complete the building stage of the project. I really enjoyed working with the students and teaching so early into my practicum. This is experience I will use in the future because I will likely have to build my own green industries program. The project is nearly complete but has been put on hold because of the winter weather.
